I need a title for my story.
All her life, Bonnie Maleus has ignored her super villain father’s activities. What do his activities have to do with her, anyway? It isn’t as though she can stop him… but then she’s kidnapped by a pair of crimefighters, and she has to make a choice.
I can do better with that blurb. I’ll work on it. Basically I wanted to do a mashup of super heroes and Beauty and the Beast. The whole thing has mutated since then, but that’s still the bone structure of the story.
And now my writing time is up, I have to feed the cats and then feed me. It’s Wednesday, guys! The halfway mark of the week!
And then I went to D&D on Thursday, and somehow everything else evaporated from my mind for the next several days!
The day job has been rough, I let myself lag behind on my knitting class homework (turned out they weren’t as strict about meeting my goals as I thought they would be), and overall the stress got me down.
And I let it… even though I know that the cure for stress is to get things ACCOMPLISHED.
So today, despite a rough start to the week (I know my job is getting to me when I start dreaming about it), I at least got some work on the story done, and got me a blog post.
The weekend was fun, at least! I saw Deadpool and I want to see it again. I was given chocolate and flowers on Valentine’s Day, and nobody made me adult all day. (The best kind of gift, I feel).

Ten things about today:
- I watched Agent Carter tonight. I love it, even though this season seems a little heavy on the slapstick sometimes.
- I did not reach my word count today, but the night isn’t over yet.
- I didn’t fold the laundry either. I went to the gym and worked on my knitting class homework instead.
- I’m committed to doing these things before I go to bed, so I’d better get cracking.
- I believe that PBEM RPGs are a wonderful way to build writing skills and meet awesome people online. I’m in three of them.
- I shouldn’t count my PBEM posts toward my word count, but sometimes it’s very tempting to do so.
- All day today I vacillated between thinking it was Monday and thinking it was Wednesday. It just didn’t feel like a Tuesday.
- I’m not a fan of Tuesdays. The only good thing about them are that they aren’t Monday.
- There are only three weeks between me and Gary Con. It feels amazing to have something to look forward to.
- I really admire people who can stay cheerful and positive in the face of anything. I really have to work to be pleasant when I’m under stress, and I wonder if everyone has to try as hard as I do, or if they are naturally sunny-natured.

Habits are hard to break, addictions even more so. I should know. I have quit smoking at least ten times, if not more than that.
My most recent attempt – the current one – started five years ago. I haven’t had a cigarette in five years.
How did I do it? Five minutes at a time. When I wanted a smoke, I told myself no for five minutes and waited it out. I found something else to keep myself busy. Once the physical addiction was gone, especially, if I waited long enough the urge would pass.
Basically, I broke my bad habits by procrastinating until the need to smoke went away each time. Procrastination for the win!
Now how I can harness that same technique to build new, good habits? It takes five minutes of willpower to pack a healthy lunch… five minutes to walk into the gym instead of driving away… five minutes to start writing the next chapter of a book instead of checking email. Because once I start those things, the only thing to do is follow through.
Something to think about, right? Something to work on. Five minutes of willpower to do the smart thing or the right thing, or at least get far enough that momentum gets me to the finish line.
My goal was to write a blog post a day for a week, and this is day four (disregard some of the dates lately! My time zone was off). So far, so good! And it’s all because I take that first five minutes to get a good start.
I don’t know if this is common or not, but I’ve always thought of the week as the time to get things done, and the weekend as the time to do fun things I don’t have time for during the week. The only ‘constructive’ things I do are grocery shopping and gym time on Sunday. There’s some tidying up as needed, but otherwise, weekend time is fun time.
I think that’s backward, at least for me. I think more successful people see the weekend as the time to get more done, without the distraction of having to go to work for eight or more hours a day. I’m pretty sure that’s what I need to do.
The main obstacle is being without structure, unless I have an appointment or a class scheduled. As they say, if you fail to plan, you plan to fail… so I’m going to plan my free days before they happen, so all I have to do is follow through on the decisions I already made.
This has little to do with writing, except that I’m more productive during planned writing times. Something to think about. Now it’s time to head over to the gym! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend and a restful (or productive?) Sunday.

I’m a huge fan of comic book movies. I can’t wait for this one. Then Captain America: Civil War, Doctor Strange… and 2017 will have even more for me to fangirl over.
I’m ecstatic over one other thing – my love of comic books finally gelled into a story concept I could actually make work… something to talk about in a future post!
